Smoking is dangerous to our health. It can bring about lots of serious diseases to the body. However many people still choose to continue smoking even though they are fully aware of the negative consequences of this habit. A prime reason is the fact that some smokers are afraid of gaining weight as soon as they get rid of their smoking habit

There is substantial evidence underlining weight gain as the main concern smokers cite as a reason for not stopping smoking. This is amongst the many other excuses smokers give for putting off stopping smoking. Did you know that nicotine is just as addictive as heroin and cocaine? Most people know that it is addictive but never would have guessed that it would be comparable to deadly drugs as cocaine and heroin

However we’re not telling this to discourage you from trying to stop smoking. Rather than this is just to give you a realistic view of this bad habit. Smoking is a bit of a strange habit as it is one of those things that we really now that we shouldn’t do, but feel that we just can’t help it once we get hooked and become addicted. Its hold over us can seem to be one packed with amazing strength and power. Seeming to sap all our willpower and make us a slave to its tempting allure. If you are or have ever been a smoker you will understand just how hard smokers make it to give up! Yes you did read that right – smokers make giving up hard! In actual fact smoking is quite easy to stop once you stop making it difficult on yourself and stop making excuses. After all, most smokers quit every day when they go so sleep or when they are at work – sometimes going hours without a smoke and without any problems – well that is until they near a break time or until they head for the coffee machine just after waking.

So do you smoke, however really want to give up? If so then what excuses are you giving to yourself not to quit? Maybe you are saying things like, ‘it’s too hard to stop’, ‘the cravings are too powerful’, ‘and I have got no willpower to give up’. Well if you are saying these types of things to yourself then you need to challenge them as you are not quite telling yourself the truth. How do I know? Well I used to say things like this when I smoked. When I decided to really give up (instead of all of those half hearted attempts) I found it just as easy as it should be. In fact it was so simple that I really didn’t have to do anything. I actually had more time to do stuff as I didn’t have to go for a cigarette every 30 minutes. I have loads more cash too that I had saved from not buy a couple of packets of cigarettes each day – that really sweetened the deal for me as well.

When I gave up I just used self hypnosis and it was the most pleasurable and rewarding thing I have done. I now have more money, better health and I don’t smell of smoke anymore.

Simply put, hypnosis reprograms the part of your mind that holds your beliefs and habits, so it’s a great place to stop smoking. We refer to this part of your mind as your sub-conscious mind.

If you are really serious about getting your act together and stopping smoking right now, then I would recommend that you try a hypnosis download or recording and put this unwanted behaviour behind you right now. I wish you the best of luck and success in your new life as a non smoker.

Singer Jamelia struck a cord last week when, at a TV program, she talked about quitting smoking. She said that to her it was really simple, and that “if you don’t want to do something, don’t do it”.

In order to smoke people have to think  about it, think of  a shop where they sell tobacco, go there, buy it, find a place where they can smoke it, open it, take it, hold it light it, suck it, taste it, inhale it, swallow it, find a place to put it off, put it off…

It takes a lot of effort, time and money to smoke.

To quit, all you have to you is… NOTHING.

Getting in shape, for example, requires a lot of effort and preparation.

To quit smoking, all you have to do is absolutely nothing. None of the above.

How do you do this?

Well, decisions define who you are. You make decisions every moment of your life, so, you define yourself every single moment.

The trick is in asking yourself the right questions.

Are you interested in having the quality of your life be better?

Some of my clients compare cigarettes to a good friend. But, would a good friend kill you? Would a good friend torture you for years so you die a slow painful death?

Some tell me they smoke because they are bored, stressed out, because they want to fit in, because they think it will keep them slim…

Others give me the excuse of a night out. But, does that mean every one else who doesn’t smoke stay home on a Saturday night?

And, if your best friend beat someone on a Saturday night out and said “well, I was drunk so… I couldn’t help it”, would you accept it as an excuse?

You might be thinking, well, Anna , you can’t compare, it is not the same thing, yada yada…

It is only when you have quit making excuses for yourself, and You’ve made the decision to quit smoking that you’ll start to think differently about it.

In fact, it is so easy to quit, it takes my clients just one session.

See, we all have choices. You can choose to spend your future in a hospital bed, spend your money in treatments, procedures, medecins, pain relief, an early tombstone…

Or, you can choose to quit now, and live the future you really want to live.

Perhaps you have said sometimes things like “the pollution in the air is worst”. Probably you do not know that the smoke of the tobacco has a toxic concentration up to 400 times superior to the allowed in many countries with respect of air pollution. Or something like: “I’ll die anyways, no matter what”.

Perhaps you think that the cigarette kills quickly (and of course, you are alive), but the diseases that the cigarette produces are slow, very slow and later bring the smokers a progressive deterioration of the health and years of suffering. It is certain that not smoking doesn’t give you an eternal life, we all die, but the important thing is the quality of life until that moment, and the last years in the life of an smoker can be horrible.

Against this, that inner little voice says “his grandfather lived 80 years and always smoked like a chimney”, and perhaps you don’t realize that was the exception of the common rule. Any smoker has the double of probabilities of dying before to enjoying a healthy elder life. There is so many false reasons, “It relaxes me”, ” It helps me to concentrate”, “It keeps me fit; , “It’s already is behind schedule, the damage is done”, etc.

Don’t let yourself down, think and look for information, and you will find without difficulty that those excuses are false.

Do not be offended, but without so many excuses, listening to your intelligence, you would have left it does a long time ago.

If at this moment your excuses and “justifications” increase, be brave, that means that you really are achieving a step to stop smoking and your inner devil is furious. Continue disassembling his lies and you will obtain it.

Here you will find a list of ideas and opinions around the tobacco. Many smokers create them, and it prevents or makes difficult to them to stop smoking. If you share some of these ideas, think a little, they are nothing but lies. Discover the deceit and it will be easier to stop smoking.

- If I stop smoking, I will get fat

- It relaxes me.

- I have tried to leave it other times and I prefer ” to be bad smoking” than “to be bad without smoking”

- I only smoke those light cigarettes (“light”), low in nicotine and tar, and therefore I am safe.

-What pain! all the life without smoking

- I will die of something anyways

- I have tried to leave it, but simply I cannot

- After so many years smoking, the damage already is done, why leave it now?

- It helps me to concentrate

- It gives me style

- With the contamination, the smoke of the tobacco does not have any importance.

- The relation between cigarette and cancer totally is not demonstrated

- I smoke little and therefore it cannot damage me

-Why it is going damage me and not the others?

- I can leave it as soon as I want

- I have a great physical dependency

- If I leave it, I will not as successful as I am smoking

- I could not work without tobacco

- It inspires me

- A cigarette does not matter

- If within two or three months I am going to feel bad for not smoking, why to leave it?

Review these ideas one by one. All of them are traps. Discover them and you’ll smooth the way to quit smoking.

Quitting an addiction is not everybody’s cup of tea; you need to have a solid determination. When it comes to smoking, smokers have a huge excuse list to light a cigarette. If you wish to believe me then let me share a little anecdote from my life. After reading, you would know that it’s easy to quit smoking if you really wish to.
My father quit smoking in a day! I grew up as a passive smoker. Our family was breathing the polluted air; my father used to be a chain smoker. Cigarette meant life to him. Life was moving at its own pace and the number of cigarettes per day was increasing with the pressures of life. Suddenly, on an unfortunate morning he suffered a severe heart attack. For about 24 hours he was lying unconscious and the moment he woke up, he asked for a cigarette. We had suffered mentally during those 24 hours and doctors said they would monitor him for another 48 hours. We refused him the cigarette. He compelled us, he needed it badly. He didn’t need it actually but his mind that was trained to have a cigarette was asking for it. How could we give it to him? We told the doctor. The doctor asked my father,” Have you ever met any patient smoking in the ICU?” well, that was quite an indication to him. Later the doctors convinced him that even a single cigarette could be fatal and he promised not to smoke again. Almost every time he had the urge to smoke but he curtailed. Initially for six months it was very difficult but steadily his desire to smoke died and now he doesn’t even think about it.

If you determine then you can do it. The first few weeks may be tough, but it becomes easy.

Try to follow these steps to quit smoking for good.

1. Take a stern decision against smoking; quit cigarette. Don’t buy a pack when the last one is over.

2. Don’t let your nerves respond to the urging impulse. Once you determine not to smoke remove your ashtrays, lighters and tobacco. Even if you don’t wish to smoke they remind you to smoke. Better to keep them out of sight to keep the cigarette out of mind.

3. Keep yourself busy so that the mind is off the cigarette. You may argue that cigarettes help releasing stress but this is just a mental myth. If you wish to get rid of stress exercise is the mantra. Get used to a regular exercise regime; take the stairs instead of the lift.

4. Hydration is a must. Keep having fluids. Always keep a glass of water or juice with you and keep sipping it gradually. If you go for juices then try different flavors.

5. Make a few changes in your routine. Try not to visit the shop where you buy your cigarettes from. And yes, not to forget here, avoid hanging around with colleagues at the smoking zone. Stay away from smokers as much as possible.

6. When you get that inexorable desire to place that lighted cigarette between your lips put a chewing gum in your mouth. The explosion of flavors and the mouth exercise would make you forget about the cigarette.

7. Don’t look for excuses! A stressful situation or unpleasant news should not be your reason to smoke and there is no reason to celebrate with a cigarette. You cannot be so vulnerable to an enticement that slow poison’s your life.

8. Curtailing desires is not easy, you may feel irritated, you may loose concentration and you may even get desperate for a cigarette. These signs of irritability would fade away after a few weeks. Be optimistic! Remember that you are trying to kill a devil inside you which is slowing nibbling on your life. Make yourself feel that you are recovering from the effects of tobacco and heading towards a healthy life.

9. Every 24 hour that you spend without a cigarette is an achievement for your and your family’s health. If you think further then you are contributing towards the environment too.

10. If you stop smoking then you apparently save some money. Treat yourself with this money! Purchase something for yourself which you usually would not have bought. This is nothing but a kind of motivation.

You may feel that I am preaching but if you follow this religiously for a month then I am sure you would be able to get rid of a bad habit and lead a healthy life. It is difficult to quit smoking but not impossible.  When the going gets tough the tough gets going.

Everyone has their own individual story to tell as to why they want to quit cannabis. My reason was because I had gotten into a rut of smoking it all day, every day. Late at night or early morning, utterly convinced I enjoyed it, I would sit, roll and smoke joint after joint. As the years rolled on cannabis seemed more like self-prescribed medication to keep me calm than the fun, recreational drug I once considered it to be. Knocking on my dealer’s door became a symbol of need and at times desperation. I often looked like I had been dragged through a hedge backwards and I completely lost my self-confidence to communicate with even my closest friends. But the dread of existing without my beloved daily fix was enough to force me to abandon each and every attempt to quit.

You probably know of at least one family member family, friend or colleague who boasts they can quit cannabis whenever they want to. An old pal of mine from way back called Sam used to brag that he could quit instantaneously without any fuss. All he had to do, according to Sam, was to stub out his last joint and that would be the end of it. For a long while he had me utterly convinced that he could do it in the manner he described – until that is I challenged him to actually do it. Then suddenly his boasts turned into the feeblest of excuses. For the first time ever I saw Sam’s natural swagger desert him. Today, tomorrow or any suggested deadline to quit visibly unnerved him.

Sam didn’t realize it but the easy to quit reputation that cannabis has is somewhat misleading. The level of ease or difficulty in terms of withdrawal symptoms is actually irrelevant. That’s because the real problem of quitting marijuana is FEAR.

Prior to making an attempt to quit Sam was confident because he knew there was no physical symptoms. He just didn’t anticipate the fear of losing what he considered to be his only pleasure in life and his special stress-relieving helpmate.

The prospect of a boring and miserable existence without cannabis was enough to convince him to put off the dreaded deed until such a time he forgot or rather until I forgot his boasts.

At www.quitcannabis.net we remove the fear of success by pointing out there are very few genuine advantages to cannabis, if any at all. Most people quickly realize they will not only be significantly happier and healthier they will also not miss cannabis one iota after they’ve quit.

If you want your smoking cessation plan to succeed, you have to be ready for all the difficulties you will encounter.  You will have cravings that will test your will.  You will start to make excuses as to why you should have “just one”.  You will also experience some withdrawal symptoms that will make it very difficult to maintain your resolve.
Nicotine is a stimulant as well as a toxin.  It works much like cocaine.  Once your body, more exactly the brain, gets used to having a certain amount, it becomes dependent on it.  When you quit smoking, and the nicotine levels start to decrease, your body starts to crave.  This craving starts to wreak havoc on you.  This is what we call withdrawal symptoms. Being aware of these symptoms will help you to deal with them more effectively.  Knowing is half the battle to successful smoking cessation.  Here they are:
-    Quick Temper:  You will notice that you react much more to things that did not bother you before you quit.  You may have less patience with your spouse and children, and even with your co-workers.  This is due to the fact that your body is stressed because of this life change you have made.  Even though the change that you embark on is good for the body, it is still going to be a stressor until the body gets used to it.  It is amazing what talking to those that are near you will do.  Just let everyone around you know about your smoking cessation and let them know that you may be a bit grumpy for a few days.  Involving friends and family is the best way to deal with this issue.  More than likely, they will accept this short term grumpiness knowing the long term benefits of smoking cessation.

-    Weight Gain:  Smoking cessation can lead to weight gain.  This is because nicotine increases your metabolism.  When nicotine is no longer present, the metabolism slows down.  There is also another issue at play here.  Smokers are used to always having something in their mouth.  When they no longer use cigarettes they subconsciously turn to snacks and junk food as a substitute.  Be aware of what you are eating at all times.  Split your 3 daily meals into five or six smaller meals and engage in exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, 3 to 4 days a week.

-    Trouble sleeping:  One of the effects of smoking cessation is sleeplessness.  It usually lasts about a week but sometimes more.  Again, this is due to the fact that your body is under stress.   Your brain is trying to adjust to not having nicotine, which disrupts your usual sleep patterns.  By the way, lack of sleep could make you grumpy (see bullet number 1).Make sure you stay away from caffeine and alcohol during this period.  You can also take a warm bath before bedtime or drink some herbal tea.  Know that most of the time; this will pass within a week or two.  The end result is well worth this short inconvenience.
Being prepared for the withdrawal symptoms will help to make your smoking cessation a success.  If you know what to expect you can prepare in advance and make sure that you can deal with any of the symptoms mentioned above.  Stick with it! The end result will leave you healthier, more in control and with a sense of accomplishment that will trump any inconvenience you encounter on the way!

Okay, I get it. It’s hard to stop smoking; however, you want to know the hardest thing? Thinking up excuses for why you can’t quit to everyone you know. How many times a day can you possibly say, “It’s just too hard” without having all your friends turn to you and reply, “Stop being such a wuss and just do it already”? The fact is you’ve got to man up and stop pretending like you can’t quit just because you continue to rely on the nicotine to make you feel better.

Addiction

I don’t mean to be a witch, and I most certainly don’t want to discourage anyone to find a way to quit. But the truth is it pains me to see people who have so much to give in their lifetimes bail out because they can’t find a way to shake the addiction. The fact is addiction is hard on everyone. No matter if it’s a co-worker or it’s a loved one, when you can’t shake the monkey off your back, you continue to push people away. Though smoking cessation is a far less severe addiction than some Class-A drugs out there, it still causes a great deal of physical and emotional pain on everyone involved.

Smoking’s Horrible Effects

You may not want to believe this but every time you light up you’re killing a bit of yourself one puff at a time. It’s a great deal of pressure to put on anyone, but someone’s got to inform you of the consequences of your actions if you’re not willing to see the writing on the wall for yourself. Some of the most horrible effects on one’s life vary from the purely aesthetic to sublimely fatal:

• severe lung trauma

• loss of lung function

• cell death (lack of oxygen reaching the cells)

• increased risks for cancer (because healthy cells are being replaced with toxic cells)

• skin necrosis (again, because of the lack of oxygen reaching skin cells)

• halitosis

• tooth decay (again, lack of oxygen strengthening the enamel)

• gum disease (gum cells dying because of lack of oxygen)

Second Hand Hazard

Before you go thinking that it’s just you that’s being affected, you’ve got to stop and consider what you’re doing to everyone around you. Second hand smoke is as deadly a killer as direct contact with a cigarette. The truth is if you persist on lighting a cigarette in a public place, you’re placing everyone around you at risk for:

• deprivation of oxygen to the lungs

• inducing fits of apnoea (short or loss of breath)

• destructing the lining of the nasal wall

• asphyxiation

Sure you may not think that anyone else should matter, but if you want to be a killer of innocent people, continue to puff on your party sticks.
