If you have tried to stop smoking previously and failed you need to ask yourself “why did I fail?”. If you can identify the reasons you failed last time you can address these and work out a new plan of action where you will SUCCEED!

You should pick a date to actually stop, a little way off to give you time to prepare but not so far off that you lose interest. Then you should make a plan including the following:

Mark the date on your calendar, in your diary and put a sticker on the ‘fridge.

Tell friends and family about your Quit Day.

Get rid of the ashtrays in your home, car, and workplace and maybe use some air freshener or even shampoo your carpets, particularly in the car.

See your doctor for advice on what nicotine replacement therapy might be needed. Are you going to use nicotine patches, lozenges, sprays, chewing gum or even some prescribed medicines? He will help you decide on this depending on how long you have been smoking and how much you smoke.

Set up a support system to get you through the difficult withdrawal period. You might be able to enlist the help of your partner or a friend who can spend time with you and participate with you in activities and interests to keep your mind engaged. You will not have time to think about cigarettes if you are busy. In addition, or alternatively, you may want to join a local support group or National Health Service stop smoking program.

Practice saying, “No thanks, I don’t smoke.”

Stock up on some oral substitutes or comforters such as sugar free gum, carrot sticks, hard candy, cinnamon sticks, straws or tooth picks.

If your doctor has prescribed a medicine such as bupropion you should remember to start taking it as directed.

All these measures, once in place, will help you once the time to quit comes along

On that day do not dwell on the situation but instead take on a purposeful manner and think about the day ahead Try a new routine, perhaps a different breakfast followed by a different route to work. This will put you in the right frame of mind to change your habits. Through that first day you might want to follow these suggestions :

Do not smoke at all- not even one puff!

Keep busy and active. Try to take some exercise during the day even if it’s just a short walk. Minimise your coffee breaks if you are at work, and don’t hang out with colleagues who smoke.

Drink lots of water and juices through the day.

Do what is necessary as regards your nicotine replacement therapy.

Avoid places and situations where the urge to smoke can be strong.

Try to avoid alcohol.

Think about your favourite food for lunch and maybe even treat yourself to a nice lunch.

Try to avoid the rationalisations which creep in when you feel you may be weakening. You know the sort of thing – I’ll just have one to get me through this rough patch, or, today is not such a good day, I’ll start tomorrow.

When you get to the evening and you haven’t smoked you can congratulate yourself on your achievement. You can now relax with some music, or a good book or TV film to occupy your mind and then go to bed knowing that you can stop smoking and that tomorrow should be even easier, no longer will you be saying “I can’t stop smoking”.

First you want to find a program that helps you quit. The most important thing that you do is try anything for a period of time. Whether it is a patch or a pill make sure you give it enough time to change your habit. You will crave the cigarette smoking for a while after you quit so give yourself time to kick the habit.

Find: <noindex>Quit Smoking Methods</noindex>

Next you want to consult your doctor because they will give you the best advice on where to start. Many people are scared when they have smoked for a long time and are trying to quit. It can be scary to go to your doctor and talk with them but this is to your benefit to do so. They are on your side and can help you to find a solution to stop smoking.

One of the hardest things you can do is to kick the smoking habit. It may take several tries and failures before you are successful in quitting smoking. Do not get discouraged if you start smoking again because you may just need to try something different.

Remember that you can increase your life by quitting smoking. There are many plans available to you so make sure you seek advice before starting one of them. Certain plans work better for certain people so there may be some trial and error before you find something that works just right for you.

Everyone knows the harmful effects of smoking. We’ve all been told since elementary school that smoking’s bad for you and can and often times does lead to an eventual demise. However, even with that advice and knowledge stored in the back of our minds, we still constantly put ourselves at risk for senseless tragedy time and time again. If you’re still one of those who refuse to get the hint, perhaps you need it spelled out for you. Don’t worry; I’ll hold your hand through the entire ordeal.

Nicotine Addiction

Sure, it may seem minute in comparison to some of the most wretched addictions out there; however, you’re putting yourself in more harm than you would if you were to get completely wasted every night of the week. That’s right; your habit can kill you faster than a frat boy beer pong championship. Nicotine is meant to stick to you like glue to your psyche and when it gets a hold, most times it won’t let up. When you’re addicted to nicotine, there are times when you can’t get yourself through the day without at least a pack –a pack! That’s 20 cigarettes. Some people are so susceptible to nicotine cravings that they can’t’ survive without it.

The Effects

Some of the most devastating effects of constant cigarette smoke inhalation are shocking and quite sensational. If you find yourself unable to shake the addiction, you face:

• severe lung trauma

• loss of lung function

• cell death (lack of oxygen reaching the cells)

• increased risks for cancer (because healthy cells are being replaced with toxic cells)

• skin necrosis (again, because of the lack of oxygen reaching skin cells)

• halitosis

• tooth decay (again, lack of oxygen strengthening the enamel)

• gum disease (gum cells dying because of lack of oxygen)

What You Can Do

You’ve got to understand that you’re not powerless. If you want to stop there are natural and safe ways to ensure that you get yourself from underneath your powerful addiction to nicotine. You’ve got to be willing to put in some hard work and commitment to make sure that you walk away from the habit completely. Depending on the severity of your case, you’re not going to be able to get yourself clean with commercial patches, gums, and sprays. You’ve got to target the problem where it begins –in the brain. Find those programs that target the parts of your mind most susceptible to addiction and cravings. Once sought out, replace said craving with something more productive –like chocolate or exercise– and give yourself the chance you deserve. Fulfilling cravings releases endorphins which give you an immense sense of pleasurable calm. Replacing a nicotine craving with something active will help you <noindex>quit smoking</noindex>.

There can be many different side effects when you are trying to quit smoking. Nicotine is an addiction that is often associated with drug withdrawal symptoms, and luckily these side effects don’t last very long. The important things is to try to get through the first week or two until the nicotine is totally out of your system.

One of the most common side effects associated with quitting smoking is depression. This is because of the withdrawal and it can be very severe for some people. This is caused by the cravings for nicotine. There are ways to stop depression. One of them is by focusing on the positive reasons you are quitting, and using them as a support through these times.

Another side effect associated with quitting smoking is that you will find that food will taste much better than it did when you were smoking. While this isn’t exactly a bad thing, you may be tempted to eat more, or even eat to try to replace having a cigarette in your mouth. Neither of these is a good idea, because eating too much, or the wrong types of foods can cause you to gain weight. This can cause its own set of health problems, but you can avoid this by sticking to a healthy meal plan. Instead of eating unhealthy snacks like chips or candy, you should eat healthier snacks like vegetables, and fruit instead. There also other healthy snacks like nuts and dried fruit you can eat as well.

Another common side effect of quitting smoking are headaches. This is caused because your brain has had nicotine removed, and just like drugs, is craving nicotine. You can alleviate this with some mild pain reliever like aspirin. It is important that you don’t light up, because you will be right back where you started. There are many different techniques you can use to help with any of these symptoms, and although the side effects may only last a few weeks, cravings can last for months or even years.

No matter what, if you truly want to succeed in your efforts, you have to change your habits. One of them is to stop hanging around people who smoke, don’t go into places that may still allow smoking. Heightened stress is another side effect of quitting smoking, and you need to find other ways to deal with stress. Because stress comes from many different sources, you won’t be able to quit your job, or get away from your kids, but you can use meditation and other methods to help you deal with stress better than smoking a cigarette.

There are an abundance of resources to help you out, both online, and from your healthcare provider. Just like any other addiction, you shouldn’t go it alone, and there are many support groups with people just like you that you can talk to. They can give you helpful tips and advice on what they have done to keep from smoking again, and you should utilize them whenever the craving comes up. Make sure that you do this before you light up, because afterward it is too late.

Most people know that smoking is bad for them but many don’t really understand just how bad it is. They know there are health risks but they push them to the back of their minds. If you are a smoker thinking, “well you’ve got to die of something haven’t you” or “it won’t happen to me” then you really should consider the facts and reasons to stop smoking.

A regular smoker is likely to have their life expectancy reduced by up to ten years. Do you really want to lose ten years of your life when you don’t have to? Coupled with this is the likely prospect that the latter few years of your life if you are a regular smoker are likely to be of poor quality due to some heart or lung disease that could have been avoided.

The adverse effects on one’s health through smoking are manifest in the lungs, the blood circulatory system and the heart. In the lungs the constant irritation of inhaled smoke causes damage leading to reduced lung capacity and bronchitis. The lining of the airways tends to lose its cilia, the little hair-like protuberances which help to clear them of mucous and contaminants so that infection in the lungs becomes more likely. Older people who are regular smokers are more likely to succumb to a bout of flu and a secondary infection because of damaged lungs.

The effect of nicotine on the blood vessels is to constrict them, and, since the small blood vessels that supply blood to the heart, are all ready narrow and may have been further narrowed by a build up of plaque (atherosclerosis) which is very common, the last thing you need is further narrowing and restriction of blood flow. Such further restriction can easily lead to arterial blockage and a heart attack.

These serious health risks should be enough in themselves to persuade you to give up smoking but if you are young you may dismiss all this as being too far into the future for you to worry about. If you not heed the advice and give up now though, you will surely regret it in the future.

If you need good reasons to stop smoking right now then there are both social and financial reasons that can affect you right now. Financially you can be surprisingly better off if you don’t buy cigarettes. Most smokers, like most drinkers, seriously underestimate the amount of money they spend on the habit. If you put aside the money you would have spent and save it for two to three months, you could have a sizeable sum – enough to buy a new bike or an Armani suit probably! Your lifestyle would have improved as, not only will you be feeing more fit and healthy but you will have more money in your pocket.

Smoking is generally becoming less and less socially acceptable. It is now banned in many public places including even pubs, once the safe haven for the inveterate smoker. You will not find ash trays in restaurants so much these days, let alone the workplace. You will feel like an outcast if you have to excuse yourself from a social gathering to nip out the back for a quick cigarette.

The anti-social aspect of smoking is heightened by the now recognised threat of passive smoking. People just don’t want to near smokers, especially in confined spaces and this has to be respected.

A smoker on a date should be aware of the possible consequences of bad breath or stained fingers from smoking. Along with hair and fingernails these are things that women tend to notice.

There are then, very good reasons to stop smoking. Quitting now will save you money, make you more socially successful and allow you to live longer. You know the reasons to quit- you must now make the decision to quit.

There is a simple secret that will help you to finally stop smoking. After smoking for forty years with many attempts to stop, I finally discovered the secret. I stopped smoking immediately (70 to 80 Cigarettes a day) and apart from mild craving occasionally, I have never even contemplated lighting up again.

Smoking has became so unimportant in my life that I do not even remember when I decided to stop smoking, apart from the fact I know it was some years ago. It did not even require will power – or won’t power – or any trauma. Neither do I hate it when people smoke near me.

So what is the secret? No secret actually, but the prequalification to stop smoking is very important.

You Must Truly Want To Stop.

Unless you can convince yourself that you want to stop smoking, no advertisement, exhortation, medical proof or medical advice will sway you from your path of self destruction. I’ve been there.

Ignore the rubbish you tell yourself every day: withdrawal, craving, weight gain, foul moods and all the rest. None of this stuff happens outside of your brain, which is fighting to keep on smoking.

In any case your craving never lasts more than 3 minutes – FACT – if you can’t handle that, you don’t really want to stop smoking.

Having finally cracked the code, I truly feel immensely sorry for smokers – I know exactly how they are kidding themselves and ruining their lungs and their lives. Thank goodness I realised I wanted to stop.

The following herbs can help, but mind the poisonous warnings on some. But they won’t help you stop until you decide to do so yourself and stop worrying about the phantom craving you expect next week or month or year. It doesn’t happen.

St Johns Wort An alternative to commercial anti-depressants, St John’s Wort is believed to increase the level of dopamine, which drops when smokers quit and thereby contributes to cravings.

Lobelia Lobelia will reduce nicotine craving when you stop smoking. Extracts as well as dried lobelia are available. Lobelia contains lobeline – a nicotine substitute with many calming properties. Use of lobelia can be hazardous as it is a extremely toxic. Consult your physician before using lobelia. Lobelia is not addictive like nicotine, but like nicotine, too much can kill you.

Avena Sativa Wild oat plant is the major source of avena sativa. It helps smokers give up nicotine and is used to treat insomnia, feelings of anxiety and nervous tension.

Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica) Gotu kola is useful in restoring memory loss caused by smoking and improves the blood circulation slowed by smoking.

Garcinia Cambogia Effective in combating the unnatural desire to smoke observed in chain smokers. The hydroxycitric acid in garcinia cambogia helps in burning excess calories resulting in weight loss.

Mimosa Tea Provides tranquility and buffers the anxiety and headache symptoms supposedly experienced after quitting smoking and used as an excuse to start again. Non addictive.

Korean Ginseng Natural de-stressor which brings relief to bodily cravings and helps fight off tiredness and anxiety attacks. Good Luck.

It has long been suspected that smoking and gum disease are interrelated. Thanks to recent studies, that link has finally been proven. We have all long known that smoking is dangerous to your health. It can cause heart disease, including heart attacks. It can lead to strokes and aneurysm. Naturally it can lead to lung and throat cancer, not to mention many others. Your breath smells, your teeth get stained, and respiratory problems and infections are practically a given. As it turns out, smoking can negatively affect your <noindex>oral health</noindex> as well.

Smoking is one of the main risk factors associated with gum disease. This is because smoking practically opens wide the door for bacteria to flock into your mouth. Bacteria is what ultimately causes gum diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis. However, that is not the only reason smoking can lead to gum disease.

Both the smoke which comes from the tobacco and the nicotine in cigarettes can make your blood vessels constrict. That makes it harder and harder for nutrients and oxygen to get to parts of your body – including your gums and gum tissue.

Smoking is not the only thing which causes this to happen. Chewing tobacco can as well. Further, they can both make it more difficult for your body to adequately fight off infections. Meaning, it cannot fight off the infection which causes gingivitis. If you are a smoker, it can even be more difficult for your body to respond to the proper treatment methods for gm disease.

How can you, as a smoker, decrease your risk for gum disease? Well, naturally, you have got to stop smoking. Think of all the aspects of your health smoking will negatively affect? You also have to do your part by rigorously taking care of your teeth. Brushing, flossing, and regular checkups are absolutely mandatory. Next, read more about stopping periodontal disease:

Mark Twain said, “Quitting smoking is easy. I’ve done it a thousand times.”

He sure had a way of getting to the heart of the matter in a witty way, didn’t he? What long-term smoker has not stopped smoking multiple times? It’s easy to quit. Remaining smoke-free is the hard part.

Once I quit for five years. One moment of weakness, and I was right back in the game, chasing that dragon. Nicotine is powerful stuff, and once your brain is wired for it, you are toast. My best advice would be to never start smoking. You weren’t born addicted to nicotine unless your mother smoked while she was pregnant, as was the case with me. Don’t do this to yourself.

If you’re already addicted and want to quit, I can tell you about the different methods. Any method is as good as the next, but the thing to remember is that once you quit, smoking is no longer an option. It’s just not something you do. If you do it once, you will be hooked again. You’re always hooked. Recovered alcoholics never touch the stuff for that reason. It is exactly the same with nicotine. Once it gets its hooks into you, it does not let go.

Of all the ways of quitting smoking, the one that worked best for me was cold turkey. That was the time I quit for five years. Those first 3-5 days were pure h-e-double-hockeysticks. I never wanted to have to go through that again, and I was proud of myself for having done it. That’s why I stayed off the cigs for so long.

Hypnosis actually works pretty well for me. It makes it easier to get off the cigarettes, but it wears off. Usually hypnosis lasts about ten days for me. I think if you listen to the CDs regularly your results might be better.

Acupuncture does diminish the cravings, but it is very expensive.

Medication works until you go off it. The downfall here is that the medication re-wires your brain and the next time you try to quit will be harder, should you stumble.

Nicotine replacement is the way to go if you’re a hard-core addict like me. It at least minimizes the damage though it is not perfectly safe. Nicotine is a carcinogen. Anyway, of all the nicotine replacement products, the electronic cigarettes are the best. You get 99 percent of the pleasure of smoking with these things and none of the 400-degree smoke blasting into your lungs. They’re also cheaper than the gum, which tastes like doodie anyway.

I hope you enjoy better long-term success at quitting than I have. If you don’t smoke, I hope you never do. If you must smoke to feel normal (like me), give electronic cigarettes a try.

Why I decided to stop smoking

My journey with <noindex>Nicodyne</noindex> began after I developed a persistent cough and went to see my doctor for advice. He warned me that smoking would only make the coughing worse, and that I was at risk for developing serious heart and lung problems if my habit continued. In addition to worrying about my health, I also started to realize that smoking made my skin look pale, caused yellow stains to form on my fingers, and made my clothes and car smell awful. My husband and kids had been begging me to quit for a long time, and I had tried on several occasions with no success. I didn’t know how I was going to stop smoking for good.

Natural stop smoking aids

Nicodyne was suggested to me by a work colleague who had recently given up cigarettes himself. He explained that he had tried quitting cold turkey, had chewed nicotine gum, and worn nicotine patches. None of those methods had worked long term, but Nicodyne did. My co-worker explained that Nicodyne is taken in capsule form and is composed of natural ingredients that work by easing nicotine cravings in the brain. He assured me that the product was highly effective in eliminating his cravings to smoke. I was skeptical, but decided to research Nicodyne for myself. I was ready to quit smoking cigarettes and I needed help.

Nicodyne Ingredients

When I started reading about Nicodyne, I was encouraged by the positive testimonials given by other former smokers. The product itself doesn’t contain any nicotine; instead, Nicodyne capsules are formulated with lobelia, a tobacco substitute that safely stifles cigarette cravings. I also liked the fact that Nicodyne contains healing and calming herbs such as elderberry, passionflower, and skullcap. The company website even offers a free trial of Nicodyne! No financial risk was involved, so I ordered a bottle of Nicodyne capsules and hoped for the best.

Stopped smoking with Nicodyne

It’s now been three months since I quit smoking with the help of Nicodyne. I am pleasantly surprised by how well these capsules work! Because my smoking habit was pretty severe, I worried at first that the Nicodyne capsules wouldn’t be able to stop the cravings right away. I’m happy to report that not only did Nicodyne help me give up cigarettes, but the capsules took effect almost instantly. I went from smoking twenty cigarettes a day to being completely tobacco-free, and the process wasn’t difficult at all.

I highly recommend Nicodyne to anyone who wants to stop smoking without the worry of nicotine withdrawal symptoms. My family is so proud and impressed by the improvements I’ve made in my life. I look and feel so much healthier–the smoker’s cough has gone away and my skin is vibrant. I’ll never smoke another cigarette, and it’s all thanks to Nicodyne.

These clips are from the BBC: Horizon documentary series entitled “We Love Cigarettes”. The advice Allen Carr gives is pretty damn good, it convinced me (a 5 year smoker) to quit cold turkey. It has been a couple months now and I’m still going strong. Update: It has been over one year since my last cigarette and I have never been tempted to look back. I really hope this simple advice has helped someone else.
