How many people do you know who have quit smoking for a month or a year or and then started up again? What methods did they use to quit smoking: hypnosis, drugs, cold turkey? If they started back up after trying to quit smoking, hypnosis was probably not one of the things they tried. Is that your story, too? Unfortunately, it’s really common.
Anyone who has smoked for a number of years comes to a point where they really want to quit. In fact, they’re desperate to quit. That’s when they find out just how addicted they are. Because even though they have really good reasons, and a lot of motivation to quit, they can’t.
Has this already happened to you? Have you already had the experience of wanting to quit because the new baby was on the way? Or your new boyfriend or girlfriend doesn’t smoke. So you don’t want to anymore either? Or maybe you’re just tired of seeing so much of your hard-earned cash literally go up in smoke!
Whatever your reason for wanting to quit smoking, good intentions are usually not enough. Nicotine addiction is so strong, that you’ll need all the help he can get. The good news is, there’s a lot of help available. You have a lot of good quit smoking methods and products to choose from.
Quitting smoking is really a two-pronged process. You have to deal with both the physical nicotine addiction, and the psychological habits that you have created around smoking. Let’s call them your “smoking rituals”.
Everyone who has smoked for any number of years has actually built a whole set of smoking rituals that are unique to them. One of the reasons it’s so difficult to quit smoking is that the rituals become self reinforcing. What exactly does that mean?
It means that when you first began smoking you developed a set of habits, or actions, that you used every time you lit up your cigarette. And these are things like having a favorite ashtray, preferring a particular brand of cigarettes, using matches instead of a lighter, or always buying a red or a yellow lighter.
Now think about how many cigars or cigarettes you smoke every day. Do you smoke one pack a day? That’s 20 cigarettes. So that’s 20 times a day that you use your red lighter, or you look at that gold and white cigarette package. And then there are all of the habitual places and times that you smoke. You have a cigarette sitting in your favorite chair, or you light up after every meal.
So after even one year of smoking, do you really wonder why every time you see your cigarette lighter, or you finish a meal, it just feels natural to have a cigarette? In fact, it feels uncomfortable not to have one. And we’ve only been talking about your behavioral habits.
When you quit smoking cigarettes, you also have to face your nicotine addiction. And the physical addiction to nicotine is as strong or stronger than a physical addiction to heroin. The good news about that is: once you stop putting nicotine into your system, most of it flushes out within a couple of days.
Quit smoking drugs, like patches and pills and nasal sprays, are intended to help you get through the physical withdrawal period. They’re supposed to help reduce the nicotine cravings, and you’re supposed to gradually taper off from them. They work about 20% to 30% of the time for long-term smoking cessation. But if you talk to people who have successfully quit smoking for 10 or 20 years, you’ll probably find that they used self hypnosis at some point to help them stop smoking for good.

There are many smokers who have quite the habit by going cold turkey. Most will tell you that they did so without much in the way of preparation. Usually going the cold turkey route is something that is not thought out or pre-meditated, it just happens. Usually the smoker goes cold turkey in response to an event like a close friend or loved one dying of lung cancer, or perhaps they lost someone in a house fire that was caused by careless cigarette smoking.
To quit smoking this way, usually involves a drastic and very emotional motivator. The event usually is something that shows the smoker in a very dramatic way that smoking has caused a lot of grief or harm to someone and smoking becomes so distasteful that quitting becomes the only option. The smoker simply stops and the motivator is so vivid in their mind that every time the urge to smoke occurs the motivator zaps the urge and the person remains smoke-free.
There are times when the motivator to quit cold turkey is a pregnancy announcement and mom decides that the baby’s health is more important then the pleasure received from lighting up yet another smoke. Sometimes the motivator is the health of another person that is living in the same household as the smoker.
Whatever the reason, the timing is usually in a way that prevents the smoker from putting much thought or planning into the act of quitting. To succeed the smoker either needs to be able to stay focused on the motivator or to have a constant reminder of the motivation to quit. A pregnant mom can tape the ultrasound picture on her refrigerator or bedroom mirror as a reminder of the life growing inside of her that needs her to quit smoking. A father of an asthmatic son may need to hear his son wheezing and watch him reach for his inhaler to serve as a reminder that he needs to make his home smoke free.
Having gone cold turkey without a plan does not mean that you need to continue without one. You can devise a plan and can enlist the help of family and friends anytime. Speak with your healthcare provider about your decision to quit smoking and ask for advice and support groups.
After you have quit the smoking habit, you can still let others know of your decision and surround yourself with non-judgmental supportive individuals. Negative people will only drag you down and make you feel like you cannot succeed. Surrounding yourself with positive energy allows the positive energy to flow through you and gives it the ability to bring about positive changes in your life.
Whether you are going cold turkey or have designed a plan to quit you are likely to run across feelings of irritability, being tired, cravings at every turn and the need to put something in your mouth.
Here are some tips to help you survive:
-Understand that being irritable tired or out of sorts is to be expected.
-Make sure you drink lots of water all day and evening.
-Do something physical like going for a swim or walk to keep your mind active and off your cravings.
-Surround yourself with support – people who can help you to resist the temptation to smoke.

Knowledge Does Not Require Action. Kick the Habit or Kick the Bucket?
5,000 people in the US quit smoking in the US a day. 1,000 people every single day die from cigarette smoking related disease. Tobacco’s association with cancer, heart attacks, strokes, and chronic lung disease account for over half of the deaths in the Us annually
What Can You Expect When You Quit?
Money in your pocket. Days added to your life Decrease medical cost/insurance cost Strengthened character Influence for good on others
Step 1 How Are Your Self Denial Muscles?
Are you able to park your car at the end of the parking lot at the mall and then walk to the mall’s entrance? How about on a rainy day? Are you able to have supper without meat? Are you able to pack a lunch for work instead of buying it at a fast food place? Are you able to keep away from other smokers for one week? Only a baby gets to relieve itself whenever it feels like it. Adults know how to delay gratification. Start practicing small denials.
Addiction temporarily gets your mind off your pain, anger, loneliness, sadness. Maybe you had unmet childhood needs like an absent father or an abusive mother. Sometimes life is painful. It’s supposed to be that way. All of us are faced with grief, loss, and struggle. Stay with your pain, don’t avoid the painful feelings and don’t numb them out with addiction. When you’re ready you can take a step to solve the problem. And it’s with struggle that we define and strengthen our character.
Addiction is half mental (Cigarettes give pleasure.), half physical (Give me a cigarette now!) A big part of the mental picture is created by cigarette companies who spend billions to keep their unwitting customers buying their lethal wares. For example the beautiful scenes in magazines, the glamour, macho, and even athletic suggestions to the subconscious mind are not what the end results of cigarette smoking prove to be. The end result is oxygen masks, intravenous medication and literally hours of pain, misery, and gasping for breath. Smoking does not make one glamorous, macho, or athletic. It does make one sick, poor, and dead. The use of hard drugs begins first with alcohol or tobacco.
Admit you have an addiction. Get out of denial. Knowledge does not require action. You don’t need to pretend that smoking isn’t enjoyable – it is enjoyable to watch the smoke curl as it comes out of your mouth. The tobacco companies with their mammoth advertising budget have promoted the idea that smoking is a matter of personal choice. Ask yourself: “Am I addicted to tobacco?” “Am I truly making a freely made choice when I smoke?” You might consider that you need to have a cigarette. Nicotine addiction is as hard to break as heroin or cocaine.
It might make you mad about all the unreliable scientific studies and we need to be careful about accepting evidence uncritically. Those reports which are supported by a government agency, a scientific journal, or scientists known to be reputable are generally reliable. Reports in newspapers and popular magazines seldom discriminate between good and bad results, laymen easily exaggerate the reliability and significance of what they read.
Start saving old magazines and stuffed animals. The reason for saving these materials will be discussed later.
When you’re ready to admit that you have an addiction you may have the desire to quit. You need to find your reason. Maybe you want to be a better example to your children, maybe you want better health, maybe you want to participate in sports, maybe you have watched a loved one die from a smoke related disease. But if you don’t quit and “grieve now” this great friend of yours (the cigarette) will probably turn on you and kill you one day. It’s statiscally equivalent to playing Russian roulette with two bullets in the gun. Functional compromise begins to be evidenced by such benign signs as chronic cough, hoarseness, wrinkling, and lowered immunity.
Faith starts with desire. Faith moves people to action. It takes faith to say I can do it. I can quit. I am willing to do the work. I say you can do it with a plan.
Step 2. Make a Written Plan Make it a Reality
Quit date on the calendar (if you wait for everything to be perfect you will never quit) Christmas, New Year, and birthday parties are harder to quit. Need to go shopping (cinnamon gum, cinnamon sticks, straws, mint tea, mint candy) Hide the alcohol, sugar and coffee the first week. Change your routine (take a different road to work, make your bed in the morning, make homemade juice, go on a vegetarian diet for 1 week etc) Write a daily journal, blog (write me a comment) Decide on medication plan (See your doctor) Decide on support system (You are not alone) Rewards at each milestone (1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 1 year) Pamper yourself (baths, aromatic oils, start walking on trails, cycling) On the morning of quit date wet the cigarettes and destroy them, wash ashtrays and put them away.
Step 3 People Who Succeed Best Get Help
A business person gets a lawyer to write contracts, an advertising agency to create ads, a marketing executive to do the marketing, an accountant to do the accounting.
Ask for support from family members, friends and co-workers. Ask for their tolerance. Let them know you are quitting and you might be edgy or grumpy. Ask them not to smoke in your presence. Look up American Cancer Society and American Lung and Heart association for Quit Smoking Programs. National Cancer Institute has a Smoking Quit Line offering proactive counseling. You can join a small group of other quitters Nicotine Anonymous. Quitnet is an online program like Nicotine Anonymous. They have a 12 step program based on AA. Reading stories of others help you realize you are not alone. With no program only 5% of quitters are still smoke free at the end of 12 months.
Urge to Smoke
Remember the urge to smoke only lasts a few minutes and will pass. The urges gradually become farther and farther apart as the days go by. During an urge you can beat up your stuffed animals, rip up old magazines. The best thing to do is inhale deep. Fill your lungs full of air and exhale very slowly. Inhale and exhale three times. It will be your greatest weapon during strong cravings.
Restore and Replenish Nutrient Reserves
Depending on how long you smoked you have a co-existence issue of toxicity and nutrient depletion. Drink lots of water and sugar free juices especially the in one healthy drink. The antioxidants will flush out the nicotine and other poisons from your body.
Cook with garlic. Garlic is high in sulfur and selenium and helps pull cadmium from the body (a toxic mineral by-product of smoking)
Affraid to gain weight throw away your butter, margarine, and vegetable oils. Only use extra virgin olive oil for salad dressing not for cooking. Olive oil plays a role in improving cholesterol levels and contains antioxidants. Use good quality coconut oil/butter for cooking. It’s impotant not to buy cheap (dried) coconut oil/butter not fit for human consumption. You need to buy fresh meaning processed within 24 hours after picking. Coconut oil does not go rancid even when cooked at high temperatures. It is a natural fat and has no negative impact on cholesterol or the health of arteries. It is available on-line. Don’t have a credit card. Pre-paid ones are available.

Do you really want to stop smoking or do you want to help somebody quit smoking? If your answer is YES then this brings us to yet another question â??How can you stop smoking?â? how can you or anybody else quit this stinking habit? Well, in rare cases itâ??s easy for some individuals to quit the smoking habit, they will just wake up one day and decide they will never smoke again and they quit smoking just like that. Out of my own experience I think nobody enjoys smoking, itâ??s only the beginners who enjoy this habit in itâ??s early stages until they are addicted to the habit and start fighting it back in efforts of trying to quit the same habit, therefore a majority of so called â??smokersâ? only smoke because they are addicted to smoking and not because they enjoy smoking.
I will tell you a short story of my own experience. I started smoking back in 1995 when I used to work in a discotheque as a Dj. I was drawn to the habit by friends and I got deep into it not realizing what I was getting my self into. At first it was fun it was cool and it felt so good â??smokingâ?, it was relaxing. After a year I decided, well I am tired of smoking and its time to quit so I woke up one morning and said to my self I will never smoke again. Three hours later on that same day while smoking my second cigarette is when I remembered that I had made a decision that morning never to smoke again! I felt terrible it was like I had betrayed my self; this went on for days months and years until I realized how difficult it was for me to stop the habit.
This â??warâ? between me and smoking went on for twelve years; I tried every thing from eating specific kinds of selected foods to all sorts of medicine including herbal medicines in the efforts of trying to get rid of the cigarette cravings but nothing worked until one day in 2006 while searching for the cure to my smoking problem on the internet I came across this amazing Freedom From Smoking Guide. At first I thought it was just one of the many online money making scams that are all over the internet, but I took some time and thought of how smoking was affecting my life, my health, my finances, my wife, my new baby, almost every part of my life was affected by smoking and I decided to download that guide and give it a try. This guide changed my life almost instantly, finally after 12 years of bondage I stopped smoking just like that simply by following the simple steps and guidelines in this amazing Freedom From Smoking Guide for only 17$ .
For Most people smoking is a hard habit to break because tobacco contains nicotine which is highly addictive to the body and mind just like cocaine and other addictive drugs. The body and mind get so used to the nicotine in cigarettes that a person has to smoke just to feel normal and think straight.
Most people know that smoking causeâ??s cancer, emphysema, wrinkles, and so on and it also shortens your life span by 10 years or more, it costs smokers thousands of dollars or more every year yet people continue to smoke, this just shows how powerful this cigarette smoking addiction is and therefore it is not something to play or joke around with.
During the 12 years of my smoking addiction I was a heavy smoker I smoked thirty to thirty five cigarettes in a day, I was spending a lot of money on cigarettes my skin turned grey and wrinkled my hair was falling off and I finally developed a serious chest condition which crippled me financially I was in a lot of pain and weak and my life was slowly fading away. Itâ??s now very important for you who is currently addicted or may be you know a loved one you can help get out of this slavery to act now before itâ??s too late by simply downloading this Freedom From Smoking Guide for only 17$ you will save yourself or someone else from spending thousands of dollars in trying to cure smoking related illnesses or even death.
Consequences of smoking:
Every time you light a cigarette be sure that by the time you finish smoking it you will have lost 5 to 20 minutes of your life, thatâ??s a proven fact. Smokers also tend to develop yellow teeth and loose bone density which increases the risk of osteoporosis a condition that causes bones to break easily and bend over during old age. Smoking affects lung power meaning smokers tend to be less active. Smoking causes fertility problems and affects sexual health in both men and women, women using any form of birth control can develop serious health problems including heart attacks when they smoke and in the case of men they tend to develop erection problems.
Cigarette, cigars and pipe smoke contains over 4000 different harmful chemicals which affect a personâ??s body and health quickly some of these effects are: High risk of illness, slow healing of injuries, reduced physical performance, bad smells and breath, stained teeth and bad skin. All forms of tobacco are hazardous. Most smokers try to substitute the regular cigarette with other products that seem like they are better for them like filtered or low tar cigarettes but the only thing which helps a person avoid the problems associated with smoking is staying smoke free. From my own experience staying smoke free brings with it a lot of benefit, when a smoker quits smoking he/she becomes more energetic, they become good looking with more money in their pockets and most important more life to live. Click here to see some effects of smoking.
â??Itâ??s easy to quit smokingâ? am sure you have heard that kind of comment on various occasions and if you are a smoker you have probably said so yourself, unfortunately as easy as it may seem easy to quit the addiction still remains. Its important for you to know that what works for one person may not for another. The moment you download Freedom From Smoking, you will find out methods of quitting smoking you probably have never heard of. I hadnâ??t until I read Freedom From Smoking with Patricia Covers.

As a smoker, have you gotten the ‘stare’ from non-smokers when you talk to them or during the time when you’re puffing on a stick of cigarette? Have you been told countless of times to quit because smoking is a sin? Everyone knows that smoking is bad but why is that so?
Well, from a scientific point of view; cigarette contains thousands of harmful chemicals and toxins that when inhaled will create significant damage to you. When you puff on a cigarette, you’re practically sending invitations to the Grim Reaper to come visit you earlier. In other words, you’re dying a slow death.
Still not convinced to quit smoking so as to optimise your life to the fullest? Do you know that 1 out of 2 lifetime smokers will die from heart diseases such as myocardial infarction? The chemicals in cigarette like nicotine and tobacco are actually stimulants that increase your heart rate and blood pressure temporarily. This actually strains your heart making it pump harder.
Moreover, if you’ve been smoking 20 cigarettes per day on average, the tar that you accumulate within your lungs is actually equal to a full cup (210g). We’re actually talking about the tar that is used to cover the roads here. The accumulation of tars reduces the efficiency of gaseous exchange in your lungs. Besides that, the chemical known as carbon monoxide has a higher tendency to be absorbed into your blood cells than oxygen. This means that the concentration of oxygen in your body will be lower and thus you’ll experience dizziness and fatigue as a result.
For those pregnant mothers, smoking during the pregnancy term will result in serious harm to the infant. The baby might be born prematurely with a low body weight and quite possibly mentally challenged. The worst case scenario for the pregnant mother who smokes would be spontaneous abortion.

If you have any doubts about answering this question, chances are bigger that you will not succeed to . Sorry if I’m being harsh, but think about this for a minute…
For instance, if your motivation comes from someone like your spouse or your doctor, who’s telling you that you have to quit, because bad things could happen to you if you continue smoking… well, you probably knew that already, so that’s not going to help you stop smoking cigarettes. It has to be YOUR motivation , not someone else’s.
The way I see it, you will feel it in your stomach when you have found your reason(s). Although you should understand and consider every rational reason to stop smoking, but when you think about those reasons, try to find out if your body responds to one of those reasons while you are thinking of them. If your body does react, even if it only feels like a very small spark, then there is a chance that this reasons speaks right to your heart. You have to be thrilled or excited, at least a little bit, by the idea that this of that reason is finally going to help you quit the bad habit. There has to be some kind of passionate reason, one that makes you excited, coming from within you.
If you found your reason that makes you excited somehow, I know that it will take you less effort to succeed. So, what other reasons then the obvious health related reasons (like lowering risk for cancer, heart attacks, strokes, etc) are there that could help you find the right motivation?
Here are a few suggestions, but keep in mind, this is not a complete list. There are probably dozens of other reasons as well. Ok, so here they are, a few of my life improving thoughts ….
• You will feel a lot better right away, having more energy and better focus. I also know that your smell and taste will improve. Teeth get whiter, your breath will be fresher and there will be less coughing as well.
• You will be proud of yourself! You will automatically be a better role model for others and if you have children, you will set a better example for them.
• Not only you will be proud of yourself, I bet others will be very proud of you too, like your partner, friends, family, kids, grandchildren or co-workers.
• You will no longer expose others to your second hand smoke. And if you are pregnant, you will have a healthier baby.
• You will be able to walk up stairs without being short of breath.
• You will have more control over your life, without worries like when or where you will have your next smoke, even (or especially) in smoke free places. On top of that, you will have more time for yourself, for instance, you will never have to worry about quickly buying a pack of cigarettes anymore or searching for a light.
• You will have more money to spend. How cool is that?
Most important is that you will find your own reason that’s compelling to you. Just keep looking for a reason that speaks to your heart and stick with your decision to , so you can be proud of yourself!
