Long Term Effects Of Cigarette Smoke

I’m not here to preach to you. I’m not even here to tell you that smoking’s bad. If I had to do that then you probably wouldn’t be reading this in the first place as you’d probably have some math homework to do. Rather, I’m here to inform you of some of the most devastating long term effects should you continue on your smoky path through life.

First Phase: Public Embarrassment

So it’s no secret that cigarette smoke is chock full of carbon monoxide. Big deal, right? There’s a great deal of carbon monoxide in the air that we breathe already. The problem is by directly putting yourself in the CO zone, you’ve consigned yourself to some of the most painful and embarrassing effects that it actually has on the body. Among other things, you’ll be suffering with:

• bad breathe (halitosis)

• immense plaque build up on the teeth

• gum disease (from the lack of oxygen in the skin cells)

• yellowing and/or rotting (form the lack of oxygen reaching the enamel)

• hard time breathing (smoking reduces lung capacity, therefore making it harder for you to breathe)

• yellow fingernails (because oxygen isn’t reaching bone cells)

• smelling like an ash tray

Second Phase: Cell Death

The fact of the matter is, the aesthetic damage is nothing compared to the trauma your entire body will end up going through if you can’t get your act together. In a nutshell, you’ll be a walking incubus of decay. Because smoke deprives blood cells of oxygen, you’ll both have an abundance of dead cells and be replacing healthy blood cells with toxic cells. Though that may seem a trifle issue, if you’re not careful, you’re putting yourself at risk for contracting several types of cancer, including throat and gum cancer. It’s never a fun thing to report to a patient that because of their years of smoking, something’s got to be removed to keep them alive –namely, a great deal of cheek and gum tissue is removed to ensure the cancer doesn’t spread.

Third Phase: Certain Death

I don’t want to frighten anybody. I don’t know if the aforementioned problems even did the trick. But you know as well as I do that cell decay only leads to an eventual death –one that’s not too pleasant, at that. However, it all comes back to the cells. As soon as cells begin to die, your entire body goes through a slow and painful necrosis –meaning as healthy cells die and/or get replaced with poisonous ones, organ functions begin to misbehave or even fail. You’ve got to ask yourself if a quick cigarette break everyday is worth the potential of cancer so try to Quit Smoking as soon as possible.

There’s always a way to get out of this horrible situation as there are so many smoking cessation. If you’re looking for a natural and safe way to rid yourself of nicotine addiction, consider the website stopsmokingquitforever.com. The website is geared towards those who want a cure and quit smoking it is simple and safe way to cast off the monkey on their backs. For more information, visit stopsmokingquitforever.com

Qiut Smoking Tips

The Quit Smoking Today program will work for you just as it has for many others who have now quit smoking for good. Are you sick of trying to quit Smoking by using Patches, Gum, Sprays or Pills…That Fail Every Time? I know from personal experience how hard it is to quit smoking. After trying to quit numerous times I tried this product. I was skeptical at first, but it really works.

While there are no easy ways to stop smoking, there are methods to help you beat your nicotine addiction. Many people like you think they should stop smoking cigarettes but find it too difficult. The reason for this is because there is a physiological basis of nicotine addiction as well as a psychological basis of nicotine addiction.

Quit Smoking Tips

While some of the most popular methods only deal with the physical addiction to nicotine, the best stop smoking aids deal with both causes of addiction.

While a few lucky smokers can quit smoking cigarettes by going cold turkey, most people require a more complicated way to stop smoking. A solid stop smoking plan will include a quit date, the help of your family and friends, the understanding of the challenges that you will face on that date and beyond, getting rid of all tobacco related items from your home, car, and work place, and speaking to a doctor about treatment for nicotine addiction.

Quit Smoking Tips

*  Cigarette smoking has been identified as the most important source of preventable morbidity and premature mortality in the United States and the world.
* Smoking-related diseases cause an estimated 440,000 American deaths each year.
* Smoking costs the United States over $150 billion annually in health care costs.
* A 2004 Study by the CDC’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion found that cigarette smoke contains over 4,800 chemicals, 69 of which are known to cause cancer.
* Women account for 39 percent of all smoking deaths.

Particularly alarming is the fact that more than 3 million young people under age 18 smoke half a billion cigarettes each year and that more than one-half of them consider themselves dependent upon cigarettes. The decision to use tobacco is nearly always made in the teen years, and about one-half of young people usually continue to use tobacco products as adults.

Studies determine that nonsmokers are  adversely affected by environmental tobacco smoke. There are 4000 chemicals in tobacco with 100 identified poisons and 63 known drugs which cause cancer.  The most talked about drug in tobacco is nicotine.  Nicotine is vasoconstrictor and a nerve toxin, it has been classified as a class I insecticide.   Other poisons include:  Arsenic, Cyanide, Formaldehyde (used to embalm bodies), Ammonia Bromide (a toilet cleaner )- Ref. 1.  Each year, because of exposure to environmental tobacco smoke, an estimated 3,000 nonsmoking Americans die of lung cancer, and 300,000 children suffer from lower respiratory tract infections.

The Quit Smoking Today program is no doubt the easiest way available to get those horrible cancer sticks out of your life for good. It eliminates the usual problems that are associated with quitting smoking such as cravings, short temper, hunger and weight gain. Quit Smoking Today is so successful because it overcomes your desire to light up. I know that you want to quit smoking, maybe you just need a little help. The best-known effect of smoking

Tobacco has many bad health effects, particularly for people with diabetes. No matter how long you’ve smoked, your health will improve when you quit.

Nicotine, the drug in tobacco, is one of the most addictive substances known. Besides the physical addiction, many smokers also become psychologically hooked on cigarettes. So kicking the habit is hard but worth the work. There are many quit smoking tips you can try that can help you quit and stay quit smoking.

10 Ways Smoking Hurts Your Health

The best-known effect of smoking is that it causes cancer. Smoking can also aggravate many of the problems that people with diabetes already face, such as heart and blood vessel disease.

* Smoking cuts the amount of oxygen reaching tissues. The decrease in oxygen can lead to a heart attack, stroke, miscarriage, or stillbirth.

* Smoking increases your cholesterol levels and the levels of some other fats in your blood, raising your risk of a heart attack.

* Smoking damages and constricts the blood vessels. This damage can worsen foot ulcers and lead to blood vessel disease and leg and foot infections. Of people with diabetes who need amputations, 95 percent are smokers.

* Smokers with diabetes are more likely to get neuropathy (nerve damage) and kidney disease.

<!– Easy AdSense V2.77 –>

* Smokers get colds and respiratory infections easier.

* Smoking doubles your risk of getting limited joint mobility.

* Smoking can cause cancer of the mouth, throat, lung, and bladder.

* People with diabetes who smoke are three times as likely to die of cardiovascular disease as are other people with diabetes.

* Smoking increases your blood pressure.

* Smoking raises your blood glucose level, making it harder to control your diabetes.

So, with above best-known effect of smoking, start to quit smoking today to prevent any unnecesarry common diseases, personal health care is important for everybody for better living. Care your personal health today.

Kill The Addiction, subtitled Stop smoking withoutquitting

In trying to solve a problem it seems logical to begin by trying to answer three basic questions. What exactly is the problem? How big is it? And how serious?

The problem is smoking. How big? The World population is between five and six billion. It is estimated that 25% of adults smoke. That is 1,300,000,000 smokers. Makes you wonder how sunlight ever breaks through! It is also estimated that half of the World’s children are exposed to second hand smoke. How serious is the problem? DEADLY! If I were to list all the terrible health results of smoking and the horrific ways in which smoking kills, this would be a very long article indeed. Suffice it to say that these deadly consequences are well beyond proven.

There is also a very interesting aspect to this problem, however. It is estimated that about 70% of these smokers actually WANT to quit, presumably permanently. Most will have tried to quit, meaning that they have succeeded in stopping, only to resume later. So here we are with 910,000,000,000 (almost a billion) smokers looking for a solution.

There is a plethora of so-called solutions, from pills to patches to prescriptions, special foods, drinks, diets, chewing gum or candy, acupuncture and hypnosis, creams, lotions, excercises, brainwashing at clinics and seminars, magic and meditation, prayer, low-poison or no-poison fake cigarettes, huge doses of willpower, prolonged tapering-off or a desperate buddy system. The truth about all of these is that for the vast majority of would-be quitters they represent undue effort, unecessary expense, false hope and finally major disappointment, leading to further reduction in self-confidence and self-esteem. Why? Because for the most part these quit-smoking solutions DO NOT WORK!

Let us then construct a model with all the characteristics that an ideal stop-smoking method should include.

First, having disposed of all those invasive and intrusive solutions that generally fail, our ideal method must logically be Non-invasive and Non-intrusive. No big mind-stretch to agree to that.

Second, it has to be Cost-effective. There is no reason to spend more than is absolutely necessary, especially in these currently challenging economic times.

In third place, I would suggest that it must be Repeatable. With all the gimmicks and gadgets we eliminated above, once they fail it is unlikely they will be tried again. Our ideal method should be such that a failed first attempt may be attributed to indecision (the most likely reason for failure) so that the practitioner may tighten up his/her resolve and go for a second try.

In fourth place I suggest the method should be followed in Private. The concept of applying the “buddy-system” to such a difficult process as quitting smoking is absurd. What can a buddy do for you when you are fighting internal demons? Hold your hand?

Fifth, and here’s a tough one, the method must be Painless. There just has to be a way to avoid the hellish cravings and other nasty symptoms that smokers trying to quit lay claim to.

Number six is demanding, but not impossible. It must be Easy. Easy in the sense that what is asked of the smoker must be true, straightforward, believable and achievable. Goes back to being painless, too. And finally, number seven in our “Seven Pillars of Wisdom” is that it must be rewarding. . . you might almost say Euphoric! Having succeeded, the would-be smoke-free user of this method will be elated, not least because she/he has done it alone, with help from nobody and no “things.” As a result, the feeling of increased self-confidence and self-esteem will be paramount.

John English, ex-smoker and quitter for 50 years, is author of the book KILL THE ADDICTION, Stop Smoking: Without Quitting, which left him smoke-free for the past 8 years. His revolutionary method meets all seven criteria discussed in this article and he invites your comments at his blog, http://killtheaddiction.blogspot.com/

John English was born in Grenoble, France in 1930 to an English teacher and his french wife. Raised in England he left for Canada at the age of 21, made it his home and eventually became Canadian CEO for three consecutive multinational companies in the Beauty products business, over a 25 year span. Now retired, he and his wife divide their time equally between Florida and Canada.

Stop Smoking Without Going Bonkers

Anyone who has tried to quit smoking knows just how difficult it can be. You already know there are undeniable health benefits to quitting, otherwise you likely would not be reading this, but how to go about it. Unfortunately, there is no completely discomfort-free way. Not only are there the psychological dependencies to break, but also the physical symptoms such as anxiety, restlessness, irritability and desire to eat.  Some people make several attempts to quit, then restart again, however, each attempt they make brings them a little closer to total success. So if you have not been able to completely terminate the habit, don’t despair. You’ve got lots of company and there is help to be had.

The psychological issues can be best dealt with by changing your environment and routines. For example, if you usually go outside for a smoke after meals, change the routine. If you must go outside, take a walk in a totally different area instead. Do not surround yourself with the usual after meal buddies who are smoking if you can’t deal with the temptation. Inform your friends what you are trying to do to gain their support. (If they won’t support you, look for better friends!). At coffee breaks, eat a healthy, low calorie snack instead of having a cigarette with your coffee. Remove the ashtrays from the home and make it a non-smoking area. Change whatever you need to change in your surroundings to decrease the urge to smoke. If you are concerned about gaining weight, monitor your weight, and adjust your caloric intake and exercise levels accordingly. Weight gain is common due to the removal of the nicotine. But if you are forced to eat healthier and get a bit more exercise, oh well, that’s life.

Physical symptoms are very real as you have stopped adding a very powerful stimulant to your body. The anxiety, restlessness, etc. that is felt is withdrawal from nicotine. There are varying methods of treating this, ranging from nicotine patches to prescription medications to herbal remedies. The route you choose is totally personal preference as to what you feel will work best for you.

Nicotine patches work by replacing the nicotine your body would have received from smoking, and gradually decreasing that amount in increments to avoid the withdrawal symptoms. This takes place over several weeks and works well, providing you are not quitting due to an immediate need to stop the effects of nicotine, such as extremely high blood pressure. Then the patches are not for you. It is also imperative that you do not smoke while wearing the patch since an overload of nicotine can cause serious heart arrhythmias or worse. Nicotine gum may be an option if you prefer just to chew it when cravings hit.

Wellbutrin, aka Zyban, an antidepressant medication, is commonly used to help smokers quit. It helps to decrease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal, plus for some reason causes a decreased interest in smoking. It does require a physician’s prescription. Headaches, insomnia, dry mouth, and increased appetite are fairly common side effects of this drug, so something to watch for.

Natural herbs can also be used to ease the transition to being a non-smoker. Smoke Deter is one such natural product. It consists of a blend of several homeopathic ingredients formulated to deal with all the common symptoms of nicotine withdrawal and there are no known drug reactions.  The advantages with natural products is that you don’t need a doctor’s prescription to try it, the cost is reasonable, and there are fewer concerns about side effects.

With all that said, the thing to do is get started on your quit smoking program. Don’t procrastinate any longer. I have heard too many former smokers say that they didn’t think they could do it, but they did, and now feel so much healthier and energetic for it. Creatively Using a Nicotine Test Kit to Help Quit Smoking

A home nicotine test kit which gives instant results could be an incentive to quit smoking and refrain from relapse once your quit smoking goal has been achieved.

The key to successfully stop smoking is to have a quit smoking strategy which includes a quit date and the notification of family, friends and coworkers of your stop smoking plans with a request for support and understanding. In addition to moral support and encouragement, motivation in the form of measurable benefits is also an important ingredient of a successful quit smoking endeavor.

As with any undertaking that requires continuous effort and commitment, the main motivation to continue the effort is measurable benefit(s), such as the achievement of a desired weight from a weight loss program, obtaining a grade of A on an examination after extensive studying or receiving a job promotion for diligent performance. Although blood pressure and heart rate decrease within 20 minutes of stopping smoking, these are the only benefits that are immediately measurable.  Improved circulation which also occurs within 20 minutes of stopping smoking is not measurable, and other benefits such as improvement of cough and shortness of breath take weeks to months to be appreciated.  Other benefits such as reduced risk of cancer, stroke and heart disease occur one to several years after one has stopped smoking.

Home urine nicotine test kits measure cotinine, a metabolite or breakdown product of nicotine which is measureable in the urine for from five to seven days following tobacco use and is an indirect indicator of the concentration of nicotine in the body.  There is only one home urine nicotine test kit on the market which provides an immediate test result of the concentration of cotinine from which one’s level of tobacco exposure can be determined based on the cotinine concentration expressed in nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml) and the interpretation scale that accompanies the kit. A reading between 0 and 10 ng/ml is interpreted as a non-smoker with no nicotine exposure, whereas a result between 10 and 30 ng/ml is interpreted as a non-smoker with low passive nicotine exposure, also referred to as second-hand exposure.

Cotinine levels of between 30 and 100 ng/ml correlate with a non-smoker with higher degrees of passive nicotine exposure, and concentrations of 100 to 1000+ are interpreted as active smoking or use of tobacco products.

In this creative model the level of nicotine exposure of the person participating in the quit smoking plan, henceforth referred to as the subject, as well as family members and other household contacts is determined by performing nicotine tests with the instant quantitative home test kit at the beginning of the stop smoking program and continued until the smoker has successfully managed to stop smoking.

Testing the subject from start date to stop date is designed to provide motivation and positive feedback so important for successfully quitting smoking.  The testing of household contacts at or prior to the start date of the quit smoking campaign is for the purpose of providing the subject with added motivation to begin the quit smoking plan by providing measurable data showing the potential harm that his or her smoking habit poses for his or her dear ones if their test results are consistent with passive nicotine exposure. Daily urine testing of the subject with recordings of declining cotinine levels, providing nicotine use is at least decreasing, is designed to provide the smoker with measurable positive feedback to continue the quit smoking plan, even if the stop date has to be adjusted further into the future.

Daily or random testing of household contacts until the quit smoking date has been reached is designed to provide additional immediate gratitude and reward for the subject once the level of nicotine exposure of those individuals reaches the 0 to 10 ng/ml level.

Since relapse is a big problem with many smokers who have managed to stop initially, it would be reasonable for the former smoker to give family members and others in his or her support group permission to perform random quantitative urine nicotine testing as a surveillance safeguard and hopefully, a deterrent to relapse.  It is appropriate and recommended that your healthcare provider be involved in the nicotine testing and all aspects of the stop smoking plan if he or she is willing.
