This is a really good question, and it really depends on a number of factors. One is that if you are using some kind of nicotine replacement to help you quit smoking, the nicotine is still in your system, even if you aren’t actually smoking. What do you think is eliminating your cravings? If you want to get rid of nicotine for good, you have to quit using patches, gums and lozenges before you will be rid of it from your body.

Unlike marijuana and other drugs that can linger in your bloodstream and urine for over a month, nicotine can be out of your bloodstream in a relatively short amount of time. In the brain, it takes about forty minutes from your last smoke and many of the effects can be gone within a few days. However, there is still nicotine present in other parts of your body. The drug can be in your fatty tissues, as well as your kidneys, and these effects will continue to be present as long as two to three weeks. A lot of this of course depends on you, how long you smoked, how much you weigh, and what kind of lifestyle you have, as well as how old you are.

In many cases professionals will tell you it doesn’t matter how long it takes to eliminate nicotine from your body, only the first three days are really critical to you. This is the crucial time period when your cravings for nicotine will be at their worst, and it is within this period that your need to light up will be strongest. As more days pass, the less you will crave a cigarette, and the less time you spend around others who smoke, or environments where there is the smell of smoking the easier it will be.

There are things you can do to speed up the process of eliminating nicotine from your body. One of the best ways to get rid of nicotine is to drink a lot of fluids, more so than you may already drink. The faster nicotine is flushed out of your system, the less time you will have cravings. In most cases, people will need to have something in their mouth and food may taste better than it ever did while you were smoking. This is a critical time when people will tend to eat in order to try to curb their cravings, and you shouldn’t do this. It will lead to excessive weight gain, and depression. If you must have something in your mouth, then chewing gum, or snacking on sunflower seeds can be a welcome alternative.

There is a great deal of information about the negative effects nicotine has on you, as well as what other ingredients in the smoke are bad for your health. This can include arsenic, formaldehyde, and even methane, just to name a few. These too will continue to be present in your body, even after your last light up. You can learn more about how you can flush nicotine and other toxins related to smoking out of your system. Before you change your diet or start any new exercise routine, you should always consult your doctor first.

It has long been suspected that smoking and gum disease are interrelated. Thanks to recent studies, that link has finally been proven. We have all long known that smoking is dangerous to your health. It can cause heart disease, including heart attacks. It can lead to strokes and aneurysm. Naturally it can lead to lung and throat cancer, not to mention many others. Your breath smells, your teeth get stained, and respiratory problems and infections are practically a given. As it turns out, smoking can negatively affect your <noindex>oral health</noindex> as well.

Smoking is one of the main risk factors associated with gum disease. This is because smoking practically opens wide the door for bacteria to flock into your mouth. Bacteria is what ultimately causes gum diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis. However, that is not the only reason smoking can lead to gum disease.

Both the smoke which comes from the tobacco and the nicotine in cigarettes can make your blood vessels constrict. That makes it harder and harder for nutrients and oxygen to get to parts of your body – including your gums and gum tissue.

Smoking is not the only thing which causes this to happen. Chewing tobacco can as well. Further, they can both make it more difficult for your body to adequately fight off infections. Meaning, it cannot fight off the infection which causes gingivitis. If you are a smoker, it can even be more difficult for your body to respond to the proper treatment methods for gm disease.

How can you, as a smoker, decrease your risk for gum disease? Well, naturally, you have got to stop smoking. Think of all the aspects of your health smoking will negatively affect? You also have to do your part by rigorously taking care of your teeth. Brushing, flossing, and regular checkups are absolutely mandatory. Next, read more about stopping periodontal disease:

To many who have spent much of their lives battling one of our most dangerous and addictive drugs, a solution has arrived that has many singing its praises. With smoking-related deaths topping 400,000 each year in the United States, tobacco is undoubtedly among the most dangerous and addictive drugs today. No testing has been done regarding the smoking cessation value of this new device, but its potential impact is unquestionable. And it is certainly unique. If you see someone smoking one of these products, there is no doubt you will remember it. This new product is called an <noindex>quit smoking</noindex> and it is a relatively new industry that has really begun to take off in the past couple of years.

Electronic cigarettes look like the real thing, they give the smoker the psychological impact of the real thing, but they do not contain tobacco. These devices have cartridges that contain the addictive nicotine, while leaving out the carcinogen-laden tobacco. Although nicotine is certainly a dangerous drug, in relative terms to tobacco, it isn’t even a competition. The electronic cig is something which many smokers around the world have tried to use to kick their addiction to traditional cigarettes, and the results thus far have been seemingly impressive.

Despite no studies being done to prove its efficacy, many current smokers have actually purchased e-cigs with the hope that it would help them quit cigarette smoking. Initial data is fuzzy on this, but there is evidence throughout the internet that this new product has actually allowed many people to either quit smoking or at least dramatically cut back on the amount of traditional cigarettes they are smoking. Many people have made the switch over to the electronic cig, and the next step would be to see how many of these people are fully able to wean themselves off the nicotine (if that is their goal). And as further studies are done on e-cigs, they might be found to have no real negative health impacts other than the nicotine. And in reality, little is known as to just how dangerous nicotine truly is when separated out from tobacco. But it is known that nicotine is most certainly magnitudes safer than tobacco.

People looking to <noindex>buy e-cigarettes</noindex> can either look to the internet, a local tobacco shop, or some shopping malls. An individual looking to buy electronic cigarettes will likely spend somewhere between $75 and $150 to get started. As the industry grows and the product becomes more mainstreamed, it is likely that one will be able to find this product a lot more readily. The only thing that could sideline this product would be the FDA. Currently the FDA is taking the position that e cigarettes are new drugs and is actually seizing many shipments that come into the country. It remains to be seen if the FDA is within its rights to seize these shipments, and if the electronic cigarettes should actually be subject to clinical trials. Given that all products in an electronic cigarette are already accepted for human consumption by the FDA, the industry believes that additional testing is definitely excessive.

Another concern would be that many people already use the device and taking it away could be problematic. Given that this is a potentially live saving device, it would seem somewhat negligent to take this product away from people currently happy with its impact on their lives.

As this issue works its way through both Federal and state courtrooms and numerous legislative bodies, hopefully the result will be the freedom of choice for people actually trying to take a step in the right direction.

For some people, this truly has helped them <noindex>quit smoking</noindex> normal smoke free cigarettes. While potential issues might arise regarding this product, this is also the case for many “nutritional supplements,” an industry that the FDA has essentially left alone. For the FDA to go after consumers trying to quit one of the most addictive drugs that exists, seems somewhat counter intuitive to what their mission statement is, or maybe what it should be.

Tobacco cigarette prices are on the rise and many feel the crunch of this recession, it’s no wonder so many smokers are turning to smokeless cigarettes. A cost-effective option for many reasons and even though many opponents are trying to discredit its effectiveness, we will look at some facts and let you the smoker form your own opinion and decide on what is cheaper. It’s seems obvious that these electronic cigarettes are a much safer and healthier solution but it may premature to make it official.

Before we start, let’s look into some of the information and rumors. There are a number of spurious claims boasted by industry insiders about the unknowns, but experts who are not clamming to the big daddy cigarette industry agree that the risk posed by small traces of chemicals in smokeless cigarette vapor is small, and is much likely less than that of consuming many FDA approved products. Even with the same products containing the exact chemicals the FDA will make it painful for the smokeless cigarette industry to gain credit without first paying its dues.

Ok so let’s take a look to see if this is really an economical choice, we think the proof is there, but smokeless cigarettes are also crafty in the technology presented. Nicotine patches and gums (also more expensive than smokeless cigarettes) are considered nicotine delivery devices but in ways that don’t recreate the same habitual act associated with smoking. People who buy these aids sometimes miss the routines of smoking more than the nicotine. Smokeless cigarettes, which visually resemble a standard cigarette, deliver nicotine through a vapor which is inhaled much like smoke but without many of the drawbacks or the negative effects or smell of standard cigarettes. Additionally, the smokeless electronic cigarette has the hand to mouth effect that smokes are so used to in their habits. This leads to our conclusion that smokeless cigarettes can be an economical choice as well as a mentally sound and socially approved choice.

But the money saved with smokeless cigarettes can be considerable so let’s take a look at some of the cost details. As of August 2009 the average price of a pack of cigarettes was $7.82 up from $2.92 just ten years ago. The average smoker smokes by low estimates smokes 15 cigarettes per day which amounts to $2138.90 per year. Wow, big tobacco is BIG…On average a smokeless cigarette filter is equivalent to 10 cigarettes so that would be 1.5 filters per day on average at a price of $1.59 per filter x 1.5 equals $2.38 which equals $870.00 per year. The doesn’t count in to effect that the average smokeless cigarette will last approximately six months so we will need to add another $59.00 x 2 for a total of $988.00. Now, this does not take into effect that the concept behind the smokeless cigarette is to lean off of smoking and vaporizing all together so there must be some kind of factor there but lets not dig that far just yet.

So there it is, we have given you some facts for you to use in making some sense out of the questions leading you to ponder if it is really right for you…As a fifteen year former smoker who has had great success with the smokeless cigarette and is off of tobacco cigarettes all together, I can say that it has been the right choice for me and the only options of the many I have attempted through the years. Give it a shot, if you are currently a tobacco smoker what is the worst that can happen by trying the smokeless cigarettes when you are removing tar, carcinogens, and hundreds of chemicals from your body?

Here is one good piece of quit smoking advice. I remember a friend told me that “Smokers don’t get old because they die young.” This is true if you think about it. Most smokers die in their middle age. Approximately 4 million people die every year around the world because of smoking. When you decide to quit smoking, commit to it. There must be no doubt or any negative views about how hard it is to quit. You must focus yourself about the benefits of being smoke free. Smokers who have successfully conquered their craving show that <noindex>anyone can quit smoking</noindex>. Anyone can give up smoking. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been smoking but the fact that you stop is a great life saving accomplishment. List the reasons for quitting. Don’t just let this quit smoking advice go in one ear and then out the other. Planning and then applying this quit smoking advice is the stepping stone to success. And these plans must certainly be followed. If you can’t quit instantly, here is one excellent piece of quit smoking advice. You can decrease the tar amount in the cigarettes that you smoke. But don’t smoke more than the usual number of cigarettes that you smoke in a day. An increase of the number of cigarettes means more nicotine intake into your body. Here is another good piece of quit smoking advice. Regularly cut the number of cigarettes that you smoke. Also: Instead of the whole cigarette, smoke half of it. Another piece of quit smoking advice: When you just have to light up, refrain from lighting your cigarette for an hour. Decide in advance on how many cigarettes you will smoke for the day. One of the most important <noindex>quit smoking advice</noindex> to remember is to cut down, not increase your intake. A change of eating pattern would assist in cutting down on smoking. With each meal take something which would not lead to smoking a cigarette. Replace the cigarette with fruits or juice, this will make you healthier and will detoxify your body. Cutting down is not a substitute for stopping. When you set a quantity of cigarettes per day you should stick to it and later on probably lessen the target number. Don’t throw the butts in your ashtrays for it will leave an awful scent that will remind you of cigarettes and wanting to smoke. One more piece of quit smoking advice is to make smoking difficult. Don’t buy cigarettes in cartons; instead wait until you finish one before buying another pack. We truly hope that you find this quit smoking advice helpful.

One of the insidious things about smoking cigarettes is that it takes a long time for the serious health effects to be noticed by the smoker even though damage occurs with each cigarette smoked. By the time the smoker notices health issues, serious health damage has occurred; damage that could have been avoided if they had stopped smoking years earlier.

Fortunately, there are obvious external effects of smoking cigarettes that warn the smoker years in advance of the damage that is happening to them internally. The problem is the smoker doesn’t realize that cigarettes are causing these external changes. This article will alert the smoker to an external effect of smoking: accelerated aging. This is something the smoker can see every time they look in the mirror. The change the smoker sees on the outside is a reflection of what is going on inside their body!

The False Sense of Security with Smoking

When you look at young smokers, you see people that don’t believe smoking cigarettes is a serious health threat to themselves. These young smokers think that because they go to the gym, play sports and go about their daily routine without any obvious negative effects, they are somehow spared the health consequences of smoking. Sadly this isn’t so.

It usually takes about 30 plus years of smoking to develop the really serious diseases that are associated with smoking cigarettes. For a 25 year old that has been smoking for 10 years, twenty years in the future is a long time.

Yet, that 10 years of smoking has already taken its toll. If the young smoker stopped ignoring the changes that cigarettes produce in their body, they would see that they are affected. If they realized what they were looking at, they would see the effects of cigarette smoking every time they looked in the mirror!

Do You Look Older than Your Years?

It’s ironic that one of the reasons a 12-15 year old starts smoking is to look older. When they start smoking at this early age, they don’t realize that smoking cigarettes will actually make them look older and BE older because of accelerated aging!

As a student of history and a photographer, I have always been fascinated by images from the past. I am grateful to all the photographers before me that took the time to preserve memories of day to day places and people that no longer exist; the everyday life that most of us take for granted. This preservation allows us to visually experience another time.

One of the things I have noticed when studying images from the 1920′s through the 1970′s is that the people look really old. When you look at a picture of a man and guess 55 years of age, it’s shocking to find that person is only 23 years old!

What accounts for this great difference in appearance versus age? Cigarette smoking! Research shows it accelerates aging. The images from the era when 44% of the population smoked cigarettes clearly shows this phenomena.

Smoking Cigarettes Causes Accelerated Aging

Our skin is the canvas that displays the picture of our health status. Smoking makes a person look much older. The longer a person smokes, the faster they show signs of aging. Research finds that not only does smoking contribute to premature facial wrinkles but also wrinkling of skin in other areas such as the inner arm. Look at your arms smoking ladies!

Another effect smoking has on the skin is developing psoriasis, a very unsightly and unpleasant skin ailment. The higher the number of cigarettes smoked over a pack per day, the greater the risk of developing this miserable skin condition, e.g. itching and burning. You can always tell a smoker, other than by the odor which is another article, because their skin has an unhealthy tone to it as well as wrinkles.

If you want to see a clear example of the aging effects of smoking, look at pictures of famous people who smoked. One of the clearest examples is President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was noted for his cigarette holder and there are numerous photographs of him smoking! He died of a stroke, a health condition associated with long term smoking, in 1945 at the age of 63. Look at the pictures of him in the last few years of his life. Rather than 63, he looks more like 93.

You can find many, many other examples in old photographs from the era when 44% of the population smoked. Look at the picture, guess the age and then see how old the person really was when the photograph was taken. Smoking does age you!

Is it Male Pattern Baldness or Cigarettes?

Even your hair dresser won’t know for sure! People are surprised to find that smoking affects their hair but research shows it does in several ways.

As a smoker of 10 or more years, do you find some gray hair beginning to show up? Most smokers do because research has shown that smokers are three to six times more likely to go prematurely gray than non-smokers. Another effect on the hair is that men who smoke are twice as likely to become bald as men who don’t smoke. Does this just apply to men? Or is this a reason why older women who smoke have thinning hair?

Although the smoker can ignore their skin changes because it’s gradual, they cannot ignore gray hair. However, the smoker just attributes this to getting older. They don’t realize that it’s not normal for people to start getting gray hair in their 20′s and 30′s. This is not a sign of getting older, it’s a sign of smoking!

How Does Smoking Affect Your Mouth?

Obviously, that harsh, polluted cigarette smoke passes into the lungs through the mouth. Smoking can’t help but stain your teeth which also adds to the appearance of being older than you are.

Of course, there is the awful “cigarette” breath as well. In addition to the bad breath, smoking also puts you at great risk for all sorts of dental problems, including oral cancer and gum disease.

Teeth and gum problems are another symptom associated with old age. Yet, this is happening to smokers early in their life.

Does Smoking Really Shorten Your Life?

In a word, YES! In addition to making the smoker look older, research shows that the smoker actually IS older.

A report in the Archives of Internal Medicine showed that men who never smoked lived an average of 10 years longer than their peers who smoked. YES, smoking really does shorten your life! Also, the non-smokers enjoyed a higher quality of life throughout those extra years.

Conclusion

You do not have to wait for 30 plus years to see the impact that cigarettes are having on your body. If you’ve smoked for 10 years or more, you can look in the mirror and see the effects today!

Facial wrinkles, gray hair and even baldness at a young age are the outwards signs of the internal damage caused by cigarettes. If you think the external body changes are simply the result of aging, you need to think again. These outward signs are more than cosmetic issues. They are a visible warning alerting you to the internal damage that smoking cigarettes is causing to your body. The sooner cigarettes are removed from your life, the sooner your body can begin to repair itself. Don’t wait until it’s too late, pay attention to these important signs today!

With all the negative effects that smoking has is amazing how many people still smoke. In addition to physical effects, there are many other reasons why smoking is not a good idea, but it is very important to be able to fully exploit these reasons, when you stop to look for reasons to smoke. Stop on a whim, it sounds nice, but it will be difficult to succeed, and often angers and sadness that have not achieved the desired results.

As for your health, there are no immediate reasons smoking is bad. At the risk of lung cancer, heart disease, cancer of the larynx and also a significantly increased risk of heart attack or stroke. Just listen to all types of health problems just as bad for people who have never again on fears of another package of cigarettes. Those who still smoke, or feel that he can not stop or are not easy to stop because they are so bad, the idea of smoking depends.

Breaking Free of cigarettes is never easy. With regard themselves as smokers, this is the kind of image you want to convey to your children? Most people who smoke to admit I was incredibly upset, or at least disappointed if their children have chosen to smoke, too. If you still smoke in front of them, what kind of example, pushes really mean? The sad reality is that parents who smoke are much more likely for children who smoke. It ‘important that you work hard to keep your children to <noindex>Quit Smoking</noindex>.

Many smokers find they have a problem with their health, a serious desire to <noindex>quit smoking</noindex> have created. Is often too late, that ultimately decide. The damage is already done for their health, the consequences are often the object of his life, not just a pack of cigarettes. Make that sacrifice is something that most people are not willing to be honest, but it happens almost every day.

The end the decision was willing to be a personal decision that comes from the heart. We can not allow someone to force the decision to stop, but at the same time, if not listen to the warnings from your doctor, you know very well that it does serious damage to your body. Failure to take account of these risks can be a devastating effect on the whole body and your family.

The negative side effects of smoking have been big news in society for many many years. Every year people try quitting, more restrictions on smoking are made and more intensive research on the effects of smoking is done.

Most of us are familiar with the dangers of smoking. However you might be surprised at the less obvious side effects that smoking has on your health, appearance and the people around you.

According to Carine van Rooyen from Health24, a smokers risk to heart disease is directly liked to the number of cigarettes the smoke daily. And every cigarette you smoke shortens your life by 5 minutes!

Smoking is harmful to every organ in your body! This is not surprising if you take in consideration that a single cigarette contains more than 4000 toxic chemicals.

If the fact that smoking will cause you to die at a young age won’t persuade you to kick the habit, maybe the yellow tarred stain finger nails or the stale hair reeking of smoke will?

Smoking makes you look so much older! It reduces the amount of blood flowing to the skin and dries it out. Over time, your skin will loose its elasticity increasing the likeness for wrinkles. You also get wrinkles from squinting every time smoke gets in your eyes and puckering up when drawing a cigarette.

It is a proven fact that as little as 30 minutes of exposure to second-hand smoking can damage a non-smoker’s heart and increases the risk of heart disease by 30%. This can increase their chances of developing lung cancer or the occurrences of a heart attack

Other effects of passive smoking or second-hand smoke include, eye irritation, headache, cough, sore throat, dizziness and nausea.

Smoking affects your general health, appearance and the wellbeing of the people you love. By stop smoking or making the choice not to start, you are making a difference in how you look, how other people perceive you and how you feel about yourself!

Too addicted to Quit?

Things people would normally never dream of ingesting are pumped into the lungs and bloodstream every time a cigarette is lit. Chemicals like Butane, Carbon Monoxide, DDT (insecticide), Lead, even Polonium-210 (radioactive fallout), just to name a few. You know it’s bad for you, so why is it so hard to quit?

<noindex></noindex>“Nicotine addiction is one of the strongest addictions to overcome”
- Paraphrased from P&T News February/March 1999

Introducing

All-natural, homeopathic, sublingual spray that helps relieve your symptoms as you kick the smoking habit!

DO YOU MEASURE TIME BY WHEN YOU LAST HAD A SMOKE?

An article in “New Scientist” reveals that in addition to altering the body’s dopamine levels, nicotine also causes hormone changes in smokers that alter their perception of time when they try to abstain. In a lab test, researchers studied how smokers and non-smokers estimate elapsed time. Initially, the two groups had similar abilities in time perception, but when tested again after abstaining for a day, most of the smokers estimated much longer time intervals, as much as 50 percent longer!

No wonder you’re irritable when you try to quit!

And that doesn’t even take into account all the other symptoms your body must deal with to break the strong addiction to smoking, and you’ve felt them, which is why it can be very hard to succeed. But you don’t have to go it alone, you can arm yourself against those nagging symptoms today, which may be just the help you need to kick smoking for good.

FINALLY, A SAFE, HOMEOPATHIC SPRAY TO HELP YOU BATTLE SMOKING IS HERE!

Perhaps you’re trying to quit smoking for the first time, or the tenth time. Either way, you need all the help you can get! SMOKE DETER is designed to help relieve the multiple symptoms that plague your body when trying to break the smoking habit, using natural herbs known in homeopathy to help relieve such symptoms as:

Aches and pains

Irritability and anxiety

Increased appetite

TWO SPRAYS, 3-TIMES a DAY FOR NATURAL RELIEF!*

A HOMEOPATHIC BLEND TO ADDRESS MULTIPLE SYMPTOMS, NOT JUST ONE

Homeopathic doctors have been using the separate ingredients in SMOKE DETER to treat single symptoms for decades, but our experts in homeopathy have chosen a blend of these natural ingredients to help relieve a wider variety of symptoms in one, easy-to-use spray application. Here are a few samples of the symptoms that each ingredient is recognized by authoritative homeopathic texts to help relieve (see Ingredients Page for full listing):

Abies Nigra (Black Spruce): Relieves hard cough, headache and stomach upset

Aconitum Napellus (Monkshood or Wolfsbane): Calms anguish of mind and body, restlessless and dry, croupy cough with tickling sensation, also chest pain with cough

Avena (oates): Creates a soothing action on the nerves

Nux Vomica (Poison Nut): Fights food cravings, and stress-related symptoms

IT’S IMPORTANT TO GET EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, TOO

People who have quit smoking successfully will tell you that getting support from others helps tremendously, and the CDC notes that success rates for quitting increase when evidence-based interventions such as health provider reminder systems, pharmacologic or behavioral cessation therapies, and telephone counseling (quit lines) are employed.

So make sure you take advantage of support groups in your battle to stop smoking, but no matter how you’re trying to quit, SMOKE DETER can help control those difficult symptoms, and our homeopathic formula is safe to use without worrying about drowsiness or other side effects.

GET THE RELIEF YOU’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR TODAY!

Homeopathy is a very unique system of medicine because the ingredients are used at levels that are generally understood to be non-toxic, with no negative side effects.
Q: What, exactly, is homeopathic medicine?

A: Back in the early 1800′s a gentleman by the name of Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician, became known for his medicinal formulas which were based on the premise that “like cures like.” That is, if a plant brought about certain symptoms in the body, sweating, active thirst, splotchy skin, then that plant would be able to “teach” the body to resist these same symptoms.

Of course you want to stop smoking. You want to quit smoking more than anything else, and you should! But, you just don’t know where to turn! If your like most, you may have tried patches, gum, Chantix, Zyban and/or hypnosis only to find yourself right back in the clutches of nicotine addiction! You know that your behavior is unhealthy, but you’re afraid to give up your crutch because if you do your emotional distress will worsen, and you just don’t know if you can cope without it! You know that it’s unhealthy to smoke, but you just can’t seem to stop! Unfortunately, smoking cessation programs not only fail to address the root cause of nicotine addiction, but they also fail in excess of ninety percent of the time! But, I’m here to tell you that there is a better solution for overcoming your nicotine addiction; one that doesn’t include patches, gum, hypnosis, psychoactive drugs or nonsense!

WHY YOU SMOKE

As with every type of habitual behavior, I believe smoking is a choice. I also believe that this choice can be broken down into the following two categories

Individuals who occasionally enjoy a cigar or cigarette socially
Individuals that smoke to alleviate their emotional distress and anxiety

Although there is health risks to consider when smoking, individuals that fall respectively into the first category are generally capable of walking away from it without any difficulty whatsoever. Comparatively speaking, this parallels individuals who drink occasionally and or socially. The second category represents individuals who have become dependent on smoking to alleviate there emotional distress and anxiety, whereby making it extremely difficult to achieve smoking cessation, unless they remove the root cause. I am vehemently opposed to labeling anyone since I believe that we are all created equal, but for the purpose of greater understanding these people would fall into the medical community’s definition of a nicotine addict. As we discussed earlier, most physicians, therapist, hypnotists, counselors and smoking cessation experts would have you believe that smoking is caused by a chemical co-dependence and/or that it is a learned behavior. Well, I have a different take on those theories, and I have proven over and over again in my Addiction Recovery Coaching practice that the root cause of addiction is the need to mask emotional distress. These emotional issues are often rooted in the negative patterns of family dysfunction, and smoking is no exception to the rule. Although when it comes to a smoking addiction, the primary type of emotional distress involved is anxiety. In many ways, smoking is used as a coping mechanism for those of us that are nervous, fearful, or anxious about our family, job, relationship, or financial well being. This frantic effort to control life often leads to smoking or a nicotine addiction. In essence, smoking is a crutch! But, why do some people react to the unknown with anxiety while others face it calmly with the belief that things always works out? I believe the answer to this question is twofold. First, some people naturally possess a higher level of coping skills, and second, some people have learned to conquer their fears, insecurities and most important their anxieties!

THE PSYCHOACTIVE EFFECTS OF NICOTINE

As nicotine enters the body, it is distributed quickly through the blood stream and can cross the blood brain barrier in approximately seven seconds. The life of nicotine in the body is around two hours. The amount of nicotine absorbed by the body from smoking depends on many factors, including the type of tobacco, whether the smoke is inhaled, and whether a filter is used. Nicotine’s mood-altering effects vary by report. Initially, it causes a release of glucose from the liver and adrenaline from the adrenal gland, which produces a stimulating effect. However, users report feelings of relaxation, sharpness, calmness, and even alertness. When a cigarette is smoked, nicotine-rich blood passes from the lungs to the brain within seven seconds and immediately stimulates the release of many chemical messengers such as epinephrine (adrenaline) and dopamine a neurotransmitter, which results in enhanced pleasure, decreased anxiety, and a state of alert relaxation. However, as the body adapts it requires increased amounts of nicotine to produce the same effect, whereby creating a trap!

WITHDRAWAL

Many of the proponents of the chemical dependence model believe that when you stop smoking, your body reacts very quickly to the lack of nicotine in your system. They claim that over the course of three to five days, you are likely to experience a number of the following physical symptoms as the toxins are flushed from your body:

Increased irritability, frustration, or anger
Anxiety, tension or nervousness
Restlessness
Difficulty concentrating
Fatigue
Headaches
Trouble sleeping
Increased appetite and weight gain

However, I have seen no empirical evidence to conclusively prove that most people experience the above-mentioned symptoms because of the lack of nicotine. I believe that most of these symptoms exist prior to smoking. Therefore, once you stop smoking the anxiety, restlessness, lack of focus, fatigue, and sleeplessness resurface. The nicotine was merely a masking agent! In essence, smoking is a means by which to alleviate ones anxiety and emotional distress. Think about it for a moment, and ask yourself the following questions:

When you smoke does it calm your nerves and relieve your anxiety?

Do you find it difficult to manage your anxiety without the crutch of smoking?

What has caused your anxiety? What dysfunctional patterns have you learned in the past that have damaged your self- esteem, confidence, or willingness to trust?
Do you find it difficult to avoid worry and to trust the flow of life?

Are you fearful about negative outcomes concerning your relationship, job, or financial situation?

Once you explore these questions, you may begin to discover the vehicle that is driving your smoking addiction!

Overcoming your nicotine addiction is really all about removing the source of your emotional distress, isn’t it? If you could remove the anxiety, nervousness, and emotional distress you wouldn’t need to alleviate it with the psychoactive substance called (nicotine?) Smoking is a symptom of underlying emotional distress and anxiety. Therefore, when you fix the root of the problem smoking becomes repulsive.

Learn how to make your urges to smoke dissolve on the spot! Learn how to make smoking become repulsive to you! Learn how to crush your last pack of cigarettes and walk away forever!
